Overview

NPSI or Nuovo PSI ("Nuovo Partito Socialista Italiano" = New Italian Socialist Party http://www.socialisti.net) - The NPSI is the more right-wing part of the former PSI (Partito Socialista Italiano). The current leaders are Gianni de Michelis and Bobo Craxi. It currently forms a parliamentary group with 6 out of 630 seats in the Chamber of Deputies (Camera dei Deputati), called "Liberal-Democratici, Repubblicani, Nuovo PSI" (formed 14 May 2002 from three NPSI deputies and three other deputies); there is also one deputy in the Senate (Senato).
The statute describes the symbol (logo) of the party at www.socialisti.net:
"Art. 2 - Il simbolo nazionale, regionale, provinciale e comunale è rappresentato: da un cerchio con bordo rosso, bianco, corona circolare verde sulla quale, nella parte superiore, è la scritta "Partito Socialista" e , nella parte inferiore, la scritta "Nuovo PSI"; al centro del cerchio, su fondo bianco è raffigurato un garofano con la corolla rossa e il gambo verde."
(The national, regional, provincial and communal symbol is represented: by a circle with red and white border, a circular ring therein, in the upper part the inscription "Partito Socialista" and, in the lower part the inscription "Nuovo PSI"; in the center of the circle, on a white field is shown a carnation with red flower and green stalk.)
The logo can be found at cedweb.mininterno.it:8890 and www.socialisti.net/.
The flag shows the logo on a red field; see fotos at www.socialisti.net/martell-o.jpg, berl-o.jpg, bob-ber-o.jpg, www.nuovopsi.com/Dsc00044.jpg and Dsc00002.jpg.

NPSI (Nuovo Partito Socialista Italiano = New Italian Socialist Party)

After its foundation in 2001 as a party in the tradition of old PSI leader Bettino Craxi, it was first rather successful in center-right alliances. Later, however, it suffered two major splits: in 2005/2006 Bobo Craxi's "I Socialisti" left the party; in 2007 the faction wanting to join the re-founded PSI left the party.
In using the red carnation the NPSI has always wanted to show its reference (and reverence) to the Craxian PSI of the 1970s/1980s. The most recent symbol shows a more naturalistic carnation on a white field, with a red ring all around (with the white inscription "NUOVO PSI"). The current flag is white with this logo [1,2,3,4].
